AN OPEN ECUMENICAL EXCHANGE OF VIEWS
Communiqué
A consultation was held at Kecskemét from 6-10 October, 1986 by the oldest confessional world alliance, the World Alliance of Re-formed Churches which has a membership of 160 churches as well as the minority reformed churches from the area of Central Europe attending. This first such meeting took place at the invitation of the Reformed Church in Hungary. The consultation was opened with a solemn service of the local congregation where the Hungárián bishop Dr. Károly Tóth, a vicepresident of the World Alliance proclaimed the Gospel speaking about the purpose of the meeting and introduced the delegates of reformed churches from surrounding countries to the large congregation.
The openingaddress of Dr. Lucas Vischer, moderátor of theTheology Department of WARC devoted to the study paper Call to Witness submitted at the Ottawa General Assembly was followed with great attention by the 40 participants from Austria, Czechoslovakia, Greece, Yugoslavia, Poland, the GDR, Romania, the Soviet Union and Hungary. Participants alsó included visitors from Reformed Churches in Switzer-land and the Hungárián Reformed Church in America. The opening Address served as a good foundation for the local acceptance of the study paper and for discussing prospects of implementation. Subsequently the current activity of WARC was outlined by Rev. Jill Schaeffer, Communication Director. The open and ecumenical exchange of views alsó enabled minority churches to report on their problems and initi-atives to strenghten and improve relations with the World Alliance.
A significant event of the consultation was the concise information given on the life of participating member churches by delegates officially representing their respective churches.
