Foreword
This book has been prepared to give both native-born and foreign students a solid sense of security in their mastery of the English language. Most of the peculiarities of so-called "regular" English word formations and usages are described and illustrated. The principal irregular and idiomatic usages are also illustrated in full.
Assuming that the student is aware of grammatical terms common to most languages, I have grouped all the trouble-spots under such headings as Nouns, Verbs, Adjectives, etc. To use this book most efiBciently, the user should glance through it to see what it contains, and then should keep it convenient for reference either to be sure that the form used is correct or to look up the correct form if there is any doubt.
